Project: Eastside
Reservoir Recreation Area: Hemet, CA
Now called The Diamond Valley Reservoir ( see page 4 )
2,500 acres of Parks: The Metropolitan Water
District of Southern California,
was constructing a reservoir in Eastern Riverside County, CA. Sited in a valley
between two linier land forms,the reservoir was to be 3 miles wide by 5 mile
long. As this was an open ended valley, this project required a dam at each
end.

AutoCAD team. Provided liaison between the Client, State Fish and
Game, Architect, Project Engineers, as well as Southern California, Imagery
and marketing consultants
Site Planner: Laid out the Conceptual
Plans for parks, one below each dam,
including: site grading, 250 acres of connecting lakes, shoreline
development,
and land use.
Creative Designer:
Barry
developed quick sketches,
and diagrams to illustrate
the visitor experience he
envisioned. This work
was presented to MWD and
marketing team in Southern

Master
Plan: Botanical Garden and Museum at Turtle Bay in Redding, CA:
The Botanical Garden were showing its age and signs of wear, and subsequently,
this was underutilized. World renown bridge designer,
Calatrava,
agreed to design a connecting bridge across the Sacramento River, between the
Turtle Bay Museum and the Botanical Gardens.
The master plan anticipated the bridge construction, installation and landings,
which required re-working the Botanical Gardens and the grounds at the Turtle
Bay Museum.
California
State Capital, Perimeter Security:
Events occurred, which resulted in sever damage to
the South entrance of the State Capital in Sacramento, CA. Barry designed a
historically relevant barrier for the capital's perimeter, however lawmakers
decided to put in concrete planters instead.
Design
Solutions for the Tahoe Conservancy:

12"x12"
Redwood mileage markers and informational signs for points of interest along the
California side of Lake Tahoe, ...now in place.

Steel Fence
System along Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe, to control visitor access into
meadows, while intercepting debris tossed from passing cars.
o
Retention Basins in South Lake Tahoe, designed to protect Lake Tahoe from silt
and salt from ski runs and roads during the spring thaw.

Hyatt Regency Water
Features: Poipu, Island of Kauai, Hawaii
Contract Administrator &
Field Designer on the
$7,500,000.
water features on sloping 3 acre site, between
the new Hyatt Hotel & Ship Wreck Beach.
The Challenge:
When Barry took over, there were three sets of incomplete documents and
contractors had started excavating with insufficient information. The hotel was
80% complete and scheduled to open in 12 months. There were no layout drawings,
so this feature were sited and installed from a 30 scale conceptual diagram.

Title and Responsibilities:
Contract Administrator: While working close
with the project's Architect, Civil Engineer and the General Contractor, Barry
traveled between islands weekly for two or three days, providing design and
layout decisions. During site visits, he managed prime-contractors,
sub-contractors, specialty consultants and jobbers during each stage of work.
Point of Interest: This feature
required pressurized water pipe in 36" PVC pipe. Fittings were custom made on
the West Coast. Block and tackle was utilized during the installation of each
fitting.
Construction Administrator and Field Designer:
Working with the Civil Engineer who oversaw pipe installation, Barry directed
piping circulation. This required quick sketches and on-site management for the
fresh water and salt water pools, spas, cascades and connecting rivers,
including: GFRC (glass reinforced concrete) water falls, piping for the grottos,
islands spas, the water slide and tunnel.
Timing: This project was completed in
time for the hotel opening.
As-Built Documents: Provided progress
drawings, As Built and supporting details for an AutoCAD team in Sausalito, CA.
